Windows GodMode

Nope, this is no kind of geeky joke. There actually excists a GodMode in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
So, how can you access it? That's pretty easy. Just create a new folder and name it "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" (without the "").
And what does it do? It gives you a folder full of shortcuts for any kind of settings you might need.
As for me, that's pretty nifty and I think it is another example how Microsoft unfortunately leaves stuff that is more than helpful simply undocumented... :-(
Well, now you know ^^

Today I got the invitation for Google's latest invention called Google Wave.
Let's hope I'll find some time to test around a bit. Let's wave ;-)

Traffic limit sucks

Argh, how happy did I feel when I saw the nice download speed (ranging from 20 to 70MBit/s) at my current flat just to realize that I am stuck with a traffic limit of just 6GB...

6 GB what's that in modern times? I mean everyone who downloaded an ISO file like Windows 7 or the latest Xcode version knows how quick you get something around 5 GB on a single day...

Of course you don't have such a big amount of data flying through your cables every day but come on, even without filesharing you exceed this limit usually within a week or two.
Unfortunately it seems like there's no other way for me than simply getting used to it.
Worst thing is in case you exceed your limit you simply have no internet access for the rest of the month. Argh, I wanna scream!!!

I feel like back in 1999... :-(

FCKGW. If you know what I mean you are kinda geeky...

Yesterday I saw something I already believed forgotten: "FCKGW-RHQQ2-YXRKT-8TG6W-2B7Q8".
For those who don't know: This is the most often used Windows XP license key and I have it seen quite often in the last 7 years. These days I read it is one of the most recognized serials out there.
Something else that Windows XP has achieved that Vista hasn't so far ;)

Is Wall-E a MAC?

When I watched Disney Pixar's Wall-E I recognised a familiar sound after the robot's battery was completely charged.

So what version of Mac OS does Wall-E run? Firedragon-lizard-lion? ;)

Cleaning day

Today it was time to clean something up. Not the flat nor some clothes. I deleted about 97% of the contacts in my MSN contact list. I had about 216 contacts and in most cases I didn't even remember the real names...
So in future logging into mobile LIVE messenger should be done in no time with my cell :-)

1337 yeah baby ;)

Wohoo, I finally did it. I've managed to install Windows Mobile 6.1 on my HTC s730 (or Wings how it is called in other countries). I don't wanna know how many nerves that costed me in the last few attempts but I really have to say: The phone feels totally different now. Maybe it is just a placebo effect but all the menus really feel a lot smoother now. Stay tuned for nice pictures and tutorials^^

The following link provide more than just big help:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383617

Only thing I have to do now is:

- set the default keyboardmapping to QWERTZ - done!
- install German T9 support - done!
- install Chinese font support - done!

CRAZY: still working and yes tomorrow I am on a trip

Today 7 AM I will start my trip to the Northsea. I am quite curious if everything will work out as expected (3G wireless internet access, GPS tools) and if I have some free time I will take some pictures at the beach and upload some of them showing typical northern German scenery ;)
OK that's one hand of the story. While already lying in bed i remembered I forgot to finish a task for work... Dammit...

So many ideas... but just not enough time :(

About 3 or 4 months ago I introduced an idea for an (in my opinion) incredible webapplication. Some kind of online shopping list which could be used on a mobile phone. I know, I know the idea sounds lame but hey this would be something I could really need. So what did I see when I was surfing through the iNet these days? Oh someone made a nifty little program called "Onetrip"for the all so shiny iPhone by Apple...
I guess shit happens... :(

But to be honest, I don't think my program would have looked so cool like this one.

Beside this, I have plenty other cool ideas but this time I won't tell ANYBODY :-P
If only a take would have 30 hours instead of 24... This way I would be able to have a long sleep AND have enough time to make my "cool" projects come true ;o)

PS: Right Patti? ;)

The IT Crowd

You like IT? Or you work in IT? Hmm, of maybe you even LIVE in IT?
Well even if you can deny all these questions there is a funny British comedy show you might like called 'IT Crowd' on Channel 4 in UK. You have no British television? No problem, you know where you can find TV shows and stuff like that ;)
Here comes a little glimpse:

And don't forget the new emergency number:
Here's a little hint 0118 999 881 999 119 7253 ^^

Bye bye Germany or Hello China, here I come (again)

Today I finally gonna leave Germany. I want to thank my family and my friends so much for the support on this. So where is the tall IT guy going? The answer is kinda simple: Southern China.
Welcome warm weather, overcrowded streets and endless shopping malls ^^

Abobe Photoshop CS3: internal error 2739

Yeah, you are so happy to hold the new Adobe Photoshop CS3 in your hands, unwrap the packaging and want to install it. But what is this: Oh Firefox must be closed to proceed the installation. Well nothing easier than that. The mousebutton makes a click and Firefox is closed.
Then something weird happens: You get a cryptic error message.
It says something like
Internal error 2739
and you suddenly realize this is not good. You are running the new shiny Vista but why do you get this message? OK, what to do next? Well, here comes the wonderful solution. Because this error already happend to me when I tried to install a demo of Dreamweaver CS3 I knew you simply have to register a DLL file.
So open your command prompt as an admin, make sure your current directory is C:\Windows\system32 and type in the following: regsvr32 jscript.dll
And that's all. After this procedure you restart the installation and everything will work as it was intended to be :o)

How to get fucked...

So what does it need to feel 100% fucked up?
1st - Become ill - yeah the winter season is the time when everybody is coughing, sneezing and makes funny stuff like that. So why shouldn't you become ill aswell?
2nd - Be busy all the time - Yippie that's even more annoying. Beside being ill why not also have a bunch of work to be done at best yesterday...
3rd - no sleep - that's the hardest of all. It is very simple. Just don't go to bed cause you have so much work to do...

I grant you will feel absolutely fucked up and maybe you even doubt you are still alive.

OK, enough cynism. I just feel totally fainted and there are so many reasons... but everthing bad comes to an end eventually.

***UPDATE***
1&1, Germany's biggest server hosting company, has some big problems right now. Some of their DNS servers are dead right now, so there's a total chaos on the few remaining ones.
And: TAAAADAAAA!!! Guess who was called when he tried to regain some sleep? Oh yeah wonderful times...

Happy 10000 ;-)

As an IT guy you gotta be crazy sometimes. I counted the days it takes until my email account gets 10000 spam mails.
On 31st October 2007 I stopped deleting my junk mail folder's contents, like I did every day before and yesterday my spam counter finallly crossed the 10000.
So if you count the days from 10/31/2007 until 01/07/2008 you get: 68 days.
The list of top scorers were advertisements for penis enlargement pills, cialis, viagra or cheap sex cams.
Well, let's see how long it takes to get 10000 next time...
